PROMETHEUS BOUND
by Aeschylus
The heartbreaking and constantly escalating resistance of Prometheus, against the authoritarian mechanism of the tyranny of Zeus, looks like an arrow running through the dramatic sequence of scenes. The figure of the suffering god-prophet stands punished, deportated and exposed in the wilderness of an inaccessible country, in the stone exile. Prometheus begins to electrifies our impulses when cruelty and intransigence of ruling lords destroys anyone who dares to oppose the decisions of the hegemony. The actors draw on the rhythmical qualities of the poetic text, converting them into stage action through their bodies and voices. Against the backdrop of a pulsating, live soundscape, the performers bring to life the characters of an age-old but invariably timely story. A story that can be perceived as bleak commentary on the present or as a bright hope for the future.
