‘21 BY ARIS BINIARIS
ATHENS & EPIDAURUS FESTIVAL 2015
’21 is a coarse and electrified oratorio for freedom and for the dynamic shift of every man from the status and the spirit of the slave, to the status and the spirit of the rebel. The Greek War of Independence, also known as the Greek Revolution, was a successful war of independence waged by Greek revolutionaries against the Ottoman Empire between 1821 and 1830. Using a musical narration of events as a theatre key, the performance takes this war to an existential and spiritual battlefield familiar to every human being. In a world dominated by irrational thinking, he who goes against accepted ideas and fights against conventional wisdom can find an authentic and personal path of liberation.
